My Doctor Is Telling Me To Go To Lab To Give A Stool Sample For Taeginea Saganata Worm

default
Posted on 2 days ago
Question: Taeginea saganata worm found in my stool few months ago (found photo online); what should I do? It was dead, about two inches long, coiled, white, had segments, tapered to thin tail. Thickest part about 2 mm flat. My doctor is telling me to go to lab to give a stool sample first but if I can avoid that and take a medication instead that would be preferred.

Brief Answer:
See details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,

If the taniea saginata was found few months ago by stool test you can take treatment but if you only see it and didn't had a test you need confirmation because it can be a misunderstanding.
You may need to do a stool test to be sure before taking treatment.
If it is confirmed, you can take one single dose of treatment of praziquantel 10 mg /kg.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks.

It wasn’t found by a laboratory test of my stool it was found by visually observing in toilet paper at home in my bathroom. Do you still recommend lab test?

Brief Answer:
You need stool test before taking treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
I recommend to do the stool test before taking treatment in order that you don't miss any other thing found in feces for tinea and you take treatment without needing.
You can't take a treatment without being sure for the parasitosis.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for the clarification. Last question, is this a bad thing to have had? I’ve been having some symptoms (bad lower right stomach pain, fever, nausea) and so just wondering the severity of effects on someone. Thank you for your time.

Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
Of course it is a bad thing to have. It can be the cause of stomach pain, nausea also can give you diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, lack of energy, anemia, allergic reaction.
The severity of symptoms varies from person to person.
But it can't give you fever.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for your response. I haven’t felt like I have enough energy to leave my house for about 5 days, and my upper eye and lower eye lids are swollen. Could that be the allergic reaction part? I have already contacted my regular doctor about this who has put in orders for urine, blood, and stool. Is there any sense of urgency to this situation to get the lab work or should I wait until I feel better to go in. Might be a week or so until I do.

Brief Answer:
It is not an emergency so you can wait for a week.

Detailed Answer:
You can wait for a week because it is not an emergency.
The swollen eye lids may be sign of allergy and also related to the parasites you possibly have.
So you can do the tests doctor gave you as soon as you can.
