Please refer to the detailed answer below

Detailed Answer:
Hello

After going through the medical details provided by you I can understand your concern for your father‘s health and I would like to tell you that for atrial fibrillation there are two treatment options one is medication and other one is DC cardioversion which is attaining sinus rhythm by giving electrical shock.

But in your father’s case fibrillation is long-standing so the option of shock treatment is out of scenario because this is usually given for new onset atrial fibrillation.

For your father the best treatment option is optimisation of medical therapy to achieve proper heart rate control which will help settle down the palpitations and relieve the patient from symptoms.

I hope this information will guide you properly.

Kind Regards

Yes, over a period of time body does develop some resistance for the medication which is why the dosage of that particular medications has to be uptitrated or some times another drug needs to be added to achieve the desired effect.
