My Friend That I Wrote In Previously About Had Brain
Question: My friend that I wrote in previously about had brain surgery for an aneurysm 15 days ago. She was released from the hospital three days ago. She is weak but seems to have no physical disabilities following the surgery. She is getting physical and occupational therapy. The problem her family and friends are worried about is her memory. She can recall things from the past pretty well but she’s having trouble with her short term memory. She experiences confusion at times in trying to recall events that recently happened. Is this a complication that is common following brain surgery? Does it get better and resolve itself in time? Is there anything family and friends can do to help?
Brief Answer:
Probably due to brain edema.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Following major brain surgeries most patients develop brain edema ( fluid collection or swelling) and it will take eight to twelve weeks to settle.
During this time period patients might experience symptoms like headache and memory disturbances.
This case also we can wait for few weeks and if the conditions worsen you can go for a repeat CT head. Your neurosurgeon can help you further. No definite treatment is required as of now.
Wishing all the best.
