My Girlfriend Drank Tap Water And Immediately Had A Sore
Question: My girlfriend drank tap water and immediately had a sore throat and now her lymp node on her left side has swollen quite a bit. It happen this morning and now its 8:35pm, she had Benadryl around noon which helped a little. Now that its wore off we went and got more but now shes freaked out and it hurts a lot more. I'm wondering what we can do over the counter until tomorrow, or if we should go to the emergency room? It would cost us a lot of money so that would be a last resort if possible. I was wondering what we could do to get the swelling and pain down. Were doing hot compress, benadryl, and i put a topical steroid cream on her jaw/lymph node.

I have gone through your query with diligence. Tonsillopharyngitis is the possibility. No need to worry. Do gargle with warm saline. Give her warm chicken soup with pepper. Taking tea with lemon and honey is also good. You can take Benadryl. Advil or Acetaminophen can be taken to get relief from pain and swelling. Throat lozenges like strepsils is good to take. These are available as over the counter. And get adequate rest.
If it is not subsiding in 2 to 3 days or getting high temperature or severe sore throat then antibiotic will be required. In such case I would suggest antibiotics like Co-amoxiclav for 5 to 7 days.
