Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us.
I have gone through your query and would like to offer some information.
Clinical and lab confirmation is necessary to diagnose fungal infection. Self medication can lead to incomplete treatment and resistance in future. I would ask her to get properly evaluated.
Since she is experiencing the symptoms only after the intercourse, you should also get checked though you may not have any symptoms.
As you mentioned, irritation due to the spermicide is a possibility that should be looked for.
Hope I have answered your query. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.
regards,

what could be the cause? if it cleared with anti-fungal doesnt that mean its anti fungal? im going to get tested. but just trying to process...
Brief Answer:
Repeated flare up of infection should be investigated further.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing back.
Fungal infection is a likely cause but repeated flare up requires further investigation. The fact that it regressed with anti-fungal medication is suggestive. Stress can precipitate recurrences. Other causes like lowered immunity, elevated blood sugar levels and hormone imbalance etc., should also be excluded.
Treatment should be over a period of 2-6 months depending on the clinical evaluation. This is to prevent recurrence.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

When you say regression with anti fungal is suggestive, what does that mean? suggestive of what?
Brief Answer:
Fungal infection is likely to have occurred.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing again.
Recovery from symptoms by using medication means that fungal infection may have occurred. Vaginoses often show symptom regression with a broad spectrum drug. Exact cause of the infection can be detected through a vaginal and/or cervical swab.
Hope this clarifies your doubt. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
