My Head Feels Like It Has A Tight Band Around

Question: My head feels like it has a tight band around it and it feels like a painful throbbing/pressure feeling in my head. My eyes are blurry and I'm struggling to focus. My eyes feel like they can't stay open and I just want to keep them closed. I feel woozy and lightheaded and unable to concentrate properly. Despite having a good sleep I feel constantly tired like I can't stay away. I feel sick

Brief Answer:
Sounds like migraines. What medication have you been taking?
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.
I have reviewed your information fully. This seems suggestive of migraines. I will, however, like to obtain more details before concluding and making recommendations.
1. For how long have you had headaches?
2. What makes the headache better? Worse?
3. How long does each headache episode last?
4. Have you ever had a similar headache in the past?
5. What drug do you take? How often and for how long? Any meaningful relief?
I hope to hear back from you and would weigh in further as soon as I get to hear back from you regarding...

4) No I haven't had it before
5) I've been taken co-codamol twice today but it hasn't helped

I don't know if I'd call it a headache. Feels like a tight band around my head and pressure in my head and a throbbing pain. It's not the worst but is the most constant and troubling. Plus my eyes keep blurring like I can't focus. And I can barely stay awake. It's not like a tired stay awake but just a can't keep my head up and my eyes open stay awake

Hi and thanks so much for these responses.
THis is definitely sounds more like a tension headache. I will recommend Ibuprofen 600mg thrice daily. Also, drink much water and stay active. Should anything else add to your existing symptoms, kindly let me know.
I wish you well and look forward to your updates.

Thank you. I have booked an opticians appointment for Monday (which seems a long time when I'm feeling like this) to check my eyes. I'm trying to drink but I'm vomiting it back. But will keep drinking. You're very kind

Can I ask what a tension headache is?

I just don't seem to have energy to lift my head properly and move properly. I was worried it may be a stroke or bleed or something

Hi and thanks for this follow-up question.
Tension headache is generally a generalized headache, annoying/tightness in nature, often lasting anywhere from 30minutes to 7days. Intensity not often severe enough to interrupt scheduled activities. Nausea is generally absent.
Hope this answers your question.
This is definitely not a bleed or a stroke. The evolution and symptoms are in no way concerning about this. Please don't worry.

I felt so ill last night that I went to A&E and they did a CT scan and said it looked okay. They told me to rest and take painkillers. But I've still got this terrible throbbing in the left side of my head on top. It's very painful and if I rub my head I swear I can feel it throb. It's been three days so I thought it would have cleared. I'm only just sitting here "resting" but can feel it throbbing and it's worrying.

Brief Answer:
Does not seem like a STROKE or Bleed!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The results of the CT are all the more comforting. If there were any bleed or stroke, that would have been picked up by the CT. Remember, getting this worried compound the symptoms and make you feel worse. You should be reassured there is nothing being a primary headache that we are dealing with. stroke would never present without you having a loss of function of one of the body functions or parts.
If I may ask, have you had any bad experience with the above-mentioned conditions?
I will not change any management at this point. I'd encourage you to be relaxed.
Keep me updated.

Oh sorry. Thanks. No I have not. I don't know anyone who has had a stroke and as far as I know no one who has had a bleed. My concern is how weird my head feels like. It just seems in one particular spot on my side and very painful. I'm trying to ignore it and stay calm and take painkillers but it's making me feel so weird and ill. Of course I've had headache before but nothing like this so it a worrying me

Brief Answer:
Would resolve.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
These headaches would resolve eventually. Being calm and confident would help with the recovery process. Unless otherwise there should have been a significant relief from the headache at this time.
