Question: My husband, 74, has spots that look like mosquito bites but aren’t. He has had them for 4 days. They haven’t gotten any better and gets a few more each day. They are a little painful & very itchy. We have put calamine lotion, apple cider vinegar with no relief. He’s also taking Benadryl. Nothing helps. What should we do?

Brief Answer:
Topical steroid, antihistaminic, oral steroids

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.

I have gone through your complaints and it could be an allergic reaction to any drug or infection.

I would recommend you to apply topical steroid like cortisone cream on the affected areas twice daily and take antihistaminic like tablet Cetirizine 10mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching.

If it doesn’t improve in 3-5 days he might require a short course of oral steroids like tablet Prednisone 20mg once daily for a week.

Oral steroids are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

I hope to have answered your query. I would be happy to answer any further queries.

Regards
Dr Asmeet
