My Husband Had A Spontaneous Nose Bleed With Large Clots.

Question: My husband had a spontaneous nose bleed with large clots. I packed it. He has had unexplained fatigue for two or three months, and a dry cough which required a medrol dose pack about a month ago. He has asthma which usually does not bother him much and used Albuteral to open bronchus. He was given Combivent at his last appointment. He has what was diagnosed as a small lipoma to the right of his spine in his neck. It is moveable and soft. It has not changed in size over two months of "watching it". Last night he was sweaty in bed, not profusely. I am a little concerned about the nose bleed today. We live in a dry climate, and he did not "pick" his nose. Just leaned over cleaning out the irrigation ditch and was told by a neighbor, "You are bleeding"! He is a diabetic Type 2, takes Lantis and Metformin. He takes Amlodipine for BP. Should the "lipoma" be biopsied? I don't remember his lab being of with his last blood draw.

Thanks for posting the query

The bleeding from your husband’s nose could be due to the dry weather. If his blood pressure is not controlled, then it also needs to be taken care. Secondly, your husband would require a diagnostic nasal endoscopy at the earliest to look for the sight of the bleeding and to arrest it.

Hence, either rush to ER or consult your ENT specialist at the earliest for the appropriate management. This is because, the bleeding from the nose in the elderly individuals can be really bothersome and seldom fatal.

Excision of the lipoma is not required at present.

What are his chances of having lymphoma?
