My Husband Had His Right Kidney Removed On The 16th

default
Posted on Sun, 4 Apr 2021
Question: My husband had his right kidney removed on the 16th of February due to a malignant mass. When he came out of surgery he had a catheter in and 2 days later they tried to remove it but he was unable to go on his own so they put the catheter back in. He is home now and he is able to go by himself but now he has extreme pain in his private area and he says he hurts all the way through to his prostate which they also put radiation seeds in because of prostate cancer. Do you have any idea why he would be hurting this way?

Brief Answer:
Possible causes explained. Consult the surgeon.

Detailed Answer:
Hi pacemaker1865,
Thanks for query.I can understand your concern.
I can think of two causes for your husband's pain.
- In case of no urinary problems...it's likely to be tissue damage done while manupulating the catheter.Such.catheters are retained in bladder with help of a small inflated baloon like bag after catheter is introduced.(so it can not come out unless the bag is deflated.)So if the catheter is handled to push or pull it -by untrained person, its likely to cause tissue irritation/damage in bladder. This can cause him the pain.
-The radiation seeds left in as you say , can cause inflammation, swelling of the part may cause stricture of urethra...This would affect urine flow...thus causing retaintion of urine in bladder & the symptoms.
*I would suggest to consult the surgeon earliest..
He would find out the cause&advise treatment to stop the pain as well as to prevent further problems.
I hope that helps.Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.
