Minor trauma possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I don't think this is something to be concerned about.
The blood in catheter is probably by trauma of mucosal lining of the urethra. During straining he probably moved the catheter causing minor trauma. I think it will heal soon and you will see no more blood in urine.
Catheters are recommended to be kept on as little as possible.
Hope I have answered the question.

how long will the pinkish tint last? When should we be concerned?
Brief Answer:
It may go in a day
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
The pinkish discharge will go in a day but it depends on him if he will create a trauma again. Also keeping a catheter for too long can increase chances of getting urinary track infection. He should remove it as soon as he can.
