My Husband Has Been Prescribed Adderall For 8 Years For

Question: My husband has been prescribed adderall for 8 years for ADHD. He took nothing else, then on the recommendation of a doctor friend (not our doctor), because of his severe back pain, he tried THC edibles/vape for about a month in November. We recently found out Kaiser began urine testing for adderall patients and he has to take his test today. Now all of a sudden we are worried, and he has not had any THC since Dec 5th (about 3 weeks). He was only using about 10-15 mg per night for severe back pain. It's so unfair that we find this out like this when he has been a good patient and is not an illegal drug user or abuser - cannabis is legal in MD and we got a card and everything to try it out for his pain. How worried should we be about this urine test? Again it has been 3 weeks since he had any THC.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is believed to be the primary mind altering chemical found in the cannabis plant. When a person smokes or inhales marijuana, THC passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, where it is carried to the brain and other organs.

THC is absorbed into various body tissue and organs like brain, heart, fat or metabolized by the liver and excreted via urine. THC builds up in the tissue faster than it can be eliminated. In chronic user, it may be happened.

Urine test is the most common drug test used. A user may test positive for 28 days after last use. A heavy user can test positive for few months or longer. Hopefully, your husband may test negative for 28 days after last use. So, don't be worried at all.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
