Question: My husband has sharp stomach pains and diarrhea, and even a sip of water makes him run to the toilet. He hasn’t eaten in over 24 hours. Also aches and stiffness all over, and slight headache. It’s been like this for more than 30 hours. He can only sleep for a little while due to pain and having to run to the toilet.

Brief Answer:
intestine infection. all recommendations in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my surgical experience, sharp stomach pain with diarrhea indicate underlying
intestine infection either bacteria or virus most likely.

My guidelines at present

- He requires more liquids to maintain hydration and avoid secondary consequences of
dehydration.
Boiled water, lemon juice, coconut water, fresh butter milk, oral rehydration salt are
best supportive liquids for this regard.

- As there is diffuse ache, diet is not recommended , though organic fresh fruits can give
soothing gut experience.
Yoggurt will support best with XXXXXXX of pro and pre biotics.

- Over the counter medication as omeprazole ( 20 mg ) with sips of water can give
stomach comfort to some level.
- Need prescription of anti spasmodic medication ( as drotaverine or dicyclomine ), GI
specific antibiotic ( as rifaximin or metronidazole ) and pro biotics with lacto bacillus
content from his GP to take care of the underlying infection in best medical way.

Wish him best recovery.
Do feel free to consult anytime regarding this.

Regards.
