My Husband Is Currently Being Treated By His Doctor For

Question: My husband is currently being treated by his doctor for a DVD by Eliquis 5 mg. B.i.d. He started with streaks of blood in his urine x 1 week. After forcing fluids, the blood was no longer visible to the eye but registering 3 on a dip stick. His Doctor sees him again on Monday. He is being referred to a Urologist next week if blood is still present.
My question is: Where could the blood be coming from? Is there any other diagnosis possible other than a bladder cancer? I am so scared. He had a Prostatectomy 11 years ago by the DaVinci Procedure at Fox Chase Cancer Center in XXXXXXX Was followed for a year by Urilogical Oncologist. Since then, his PSA remains negative. I am a retired nurse and scared to death. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Microscopic Hematuria is due to side effect of Eliquis

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Hematuria that your husband has is definitely due to side effect of Eliquis which causes Hemorrhagic Cystitis which is the cause hematuria which normally settles down over a period of 3-4 weeks with general measures like increasing water intake and taking prophylactic antibiotics like Nitrrofurantoin.

There is nothing to be worried about .However you may consult qualified Urologist and get his endoscopic examination of bladder (Cystoscopy) done to allay your anxiety about bladder cancer .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
