My Mom Is 82. Was Just In Hospital For A
Question: My mom is 82. Was just in hospital for a clot in her lung caused by irregular heart beat. They put her on Eliquis. She has high BP and they put her on Metroprolol, too, as her heart rate was unmanaged around 130-140. They did a procedure where they went into her heart and corrected the heart beat to correct rhythm. CT shows no more clots. In 82 years, this was the only incidence of a clot. Did they "fix" her irregular heartbeat? Why must she continue Eliquis? Is there no other way to manage what they are calling Afib/blood thinning, high BP and heart rate? Is there no drugs she can take independently for each that don't cost over $700/mo? She has no insurance and her nose bleeds a lot. What are the chances she will clot again or have a stroke? Can she just take vitamins like she used to to manage keeping her blood thin, continue her bp med? This new BP med makes her so sleepy, she didn't wake up until 10 am! That Rx slows her heart down too much! Advice please1! She's a super active, healthy 82.
