Hi there
Thanks for the query.
Does your mother have pain that radiates from the back of the neck to the shoulder and does it also go to the forearm and hands?
Is there any pins and needles sensation or numbness that travels from the neck to the arm forearm hands and fingers?
Does your mother have any medical problems like heart disease or Diabetes?
If the pain is only coming from the neck to the shoulder it could be due to shoulder arthritis or rotator cuff degeneration. If the pain feels like a shock or shooting type of pain that comes from the back of the neck to the arm forearm hand fingers it could be a nerve compression in the cervical spine of the neck which can be caused due to a slip disc.
Regarding the swelling which is there on the wrist it could most likely be due to a ganglion cyst. This can be confirmed by an ultrasound scan. If it is slow growing and not creating any problem with daily activity then not to worry.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Answer
Detailed Answer:
In that case it could be rotator cuff shoulder muscles degenerative changes. Warm fomentation over the shoulder will help. Avoid overhead shoulder activity or lifting heavy objects. An xray of the shoulder and cervical spine will help to find if there is severe arthritis of shoulder joint or spine.
If there is radiating pain from the neck to arm then it is most likely slip disc or cervical spine arthritis that is pressing on nerve. In that case cervical spine MRI will help. Avoid bending neck forwards. Use Orthopaedic pillow with memory foam to rest head.
