Brief Answer:
Depends upon the extent of the cut

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Noted the history about your Mother having injury over her finger by touching a broken glass - she is completely fine for the last 5 hours but you are concerned about the need of medicine.

Some additional information would help me to assist your Mother better:
How deep is the cut?
Is there any bleeding or pain?
Which finger and at which area got the cut?
Any history of diabetes?

If possible, please upload/attach some clear and focused photos as this could be really helpful assessing the wound further.

If the would is small, not bleeding then dressing in sterile gauze with Liquid Povidone Iodine may be sufficient.
If the cut is large and the edges are not approximated then a few stitches would offer early recovery.

In deep cuts, it is always better to take a few dosages of anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits and an antibiotic to avoid infection.

I hope this answer helps you.

Please feel free to ask further.

Is it okay that the wound will be open overnight? I can go to the chemist tomorrow and get the liquid povidone. How much should I apply and how often should I change the gauze?

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback and the photo.

Since there is no pain or bleeding after initial bleeding, you can cover the wound with sterile gauze if you have at home.

Apply Liquid Povidone Iodine to the whole finger, apply sterile gauze, pour more liquid on it 2 -3 times a day.

Change dressing after a day to review.

Get another blood sugar done tomorrow just to be sure, preferably post-meal.
Please ask her not to keep the hand hanging as it may increase swelling and cause pain.

I hope this answer helps further.
injection Tetanus Toxoid booster, if needed. Is given every 10 years - if it is due.

Take care.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
just to make sure that there is no diabetes

Detailed Answer:
Just to make sure that there is no diabetes.

Raised sugar can increase the risk of infection and delayed healing.

You have mentioned her as pre-diabetic due to fasting sugar being 105.
If the blood sugars are normal then there is no worry.

I hope this answers your query.
Take care and give feedback.
