My Mother Is 82, And As She Prepared To Go
Question: My mother is 82, and as she prepared to go to bed tonight at 1 am, as she laid down, the room started spinning fast. This may have happened once before in the past but not as seriously. This lasted about 3 minutes, but it recurred twice in the last couple of hours. Blood pressure is 143/70. She takes losartan (50 mg) for high blood pressure, but that was earlier in the day. A little extra sweating but no other symptoms. Any major concern?

Regarding your concern, I would explain that this situation could be related to the chronic degeneration in the cervical spine or an inner ear disorder.
In my opinion, there is no reason to panic.
Anyway, if the problem persists, I would recommend consulting with her attending physician for a physical exam, a brain MRI or CT scan and a Doppler ultrasound of the carotid and vertebral arteries in order to exclude possible narrowing of the arteries or TIA( transient ischemic attacks).
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
