My Mother Who Is 50 Years Old And Has Restlessness, Particularly In The Evening

Question: Dear Doctor,

I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out regarding my mother, who is 50 years old and has been experiencing the following symptoms for over two months:

1 - Restlessness, particularly in the evening
2 - Mild breathing difficulty while climbing stairs (not severe)
3 - Irritability in mood
4 - Loss of appetite
5 - Occasional mild fever

We recently consulted a general physician who recommended a few diagnostic tests (attached here for your reference). Her vitals generally remain within the normal range, except for her pulse rate, which fluctuates between 60-70 bpm while resting during periods of restlessness.

I would appreciate your assessment to understand if these symptoms indicate any underlying cardiac concerns. Please let me know your thoughts and any further steps we should take.

Looking forward to your guidance.

Note : As she is 50 years old, her period cycle has been irregular for last 6 months

Thanks & Regards,

Brief Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX kindly refer to the detailed information below

Detailed Answer:
Hi, after going through the medical details provided by you I can understand your concern and I would like to tell you that there is nothing alarming in your mother’s report per se.

Yes, your doctor is right about the pre-menopausal symptoms which can cause restlessness, mood swings, hot flushes etc in women.

However to make things sure I would like to suggest you to kindly get an ECG done for your mother and forward me the ecg image.

However her uric acid is slightly elevated and if she doesn’t complain about any heel or ankle pains then just take dietary precautions like avoiding protein rich diet for 10-15 days.

Hope to have been helpful.

Thanks
