My Mum Has Swelling Of Her Right Arm And Both
Question: My mum has swelling of her right arm and both lower legs. We rang the GP who is lowering the dose of Amlodipine. Mum has had this medication for at least 10 years. Can this medication do this after so long? Our doctor is only doing telephone consultations so hasn't even seen my mums legs or arm. Mum is also short of breath. She does have asthma i am just worried it all could be connected. There is no warmth or redness in either leg or arm
Brief Answer:
Lowering amlodipine is helpful.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
Amlodipine can commonly give the side effects of swelling of ankles and feet.
It can give this side effect even if you have used it for long time without side effects.
It also may rarely give difficulty breathing.
Lowering the dosage or stoping it will reduce swelling.
You can wait for some days and see if the swelling is getting better.
If swelling doesn't get better she should visit GP and check kidney function.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
