My Name Is XXXXXXX And I Have A Buzzing Or

Question: My name is XXXXXXX and I have a buzzing or vibrating sensation in my vagina and anus. I fell 3 weeks ago on my back and I felt a pulling in the front of my vagina. Well I rested and iced it and was feeling much better until 4 days ago when
I had dragged a heavy bag across the room. Then I had to climb some stairs at work afterwards I felt the vibrations. I rested for a couples of days and then the vibrations faded away. I went back to work and had to climb stairs again and now it’s back. I’m not in pain at all...it’s just feels uncomfortable. I can’t take ibuprofen or aspirin because I am allergic to them. I was reading the that it could be an overdistention of the nerve. How can I help in the recovery of this uncomfortable condition?

Brief Answer:
Several measures explained below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern.

The vibration sensation in the vagina and anal area may be due to spasms or twitching of the muscles in the area. Most of the time it is not due to serious conditions.
If you are going into menopause, this may be one of the reasons due to the weakness of the pelvic muscles. Straining and lifting weights may make it worse and the same may happen with dragging a bag or physical activity.
Also, in some cases, neurological conditions may cause strange sensations in different areas of the body, the pelvic area included (vagina and anal area).

I would recommend you to:
- Get vitamin supplements, especially B complex as sometimes vitamin B deficiencies (especially B12) may cause neurological symptoms.
- Avoid coffee and alcohol and try to have a healthy lifestyle with a healthy diet (including fruits and vegetables) and try to be active (exercising regularly as well).
- Also Kegel exercises (tightening the pelvic muscles as if you resist urination and defecation), regularly every day, may strengthen these muscles and reduce the vibration sensation.
- Avoid lifting weights as these may cause strain in the pelvic muscles and worsen the symptoms especially if there is a weakness of these muscles.
- Having a fasting sugar check is easy and not expensive and will rule out diabetes. Diabetes may also cause damage to the nerves and strange sensations.

If you see no improvement with the measures above (Kegel exercises, avoidance of alcohol and coffee, being active and exercising, B complex supplements, healthy lifestyle in general, etc) then you will need to have a visit with your doctor.
In this case, it is important to rule diabetes for sure (HbA1C can be done) and have a neurological examination to rule out neurological conditions peripheral (the nerves) or central (spine and brain). A gynecological examination can be conducted to rule out pelvic muscle weakness or vaginal atrophy due to menopause, etc.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Thank you doctor! That makes perfect sense! I am currently struggle with turning 50 and this was the very last thing I needed to stress me out. I don’t drink alcohol, eat anything with caffeine, I don’t smoke and currently on a weight loss program. The most difficult thing for me to do is not doing any heavy lifting but I will avoid because I want to feel better. Will Yoga help? And is it possible to have intercourse?

Brief Answer:
Intercourse is possible- further details below

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome back,

It is a pleasure to assist you. It is good you do not use alcohol or coffee and are trying to loose weight.
As for the yoga, there are certain poses that they recommend to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles but no such info is supported by official medical websites. Kegel exercises are the ones recommend by medical guidelines.
Yes, you can have intercourse, it does not worsen the symptoms. Sometimes, intercourse can be difficult due to vaginal atrophy, in this case, vaginal lubricants or estrogen ointments can be used to ease it.

I hope this answers your query.
