My Neck Is Very Sore. I Have Hypothyroidism In My

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Jun 2020
Question: My neck is very sore. I have hypothyroidism in my family and I'm concerned that I might be experiencing symptoms, although I've never been officially tested. I'm also a smoker and vape sometimes. Coffee seems to make it worse as well. My neck hurts and has a sore/bruised feeling to it. The discomfort is in the front on the right side, on the lower half and the pain radiates outward. Could this be hypothyroid or something else? Inhaling or sucking on cigarettes or vaping seems to aggravate the muscle there.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely related to hypoandrogenism.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Hypothyroidism and smoking does not cause sore neck.
Possible causes like thyroiditis or cervical spondylitis(in spondylitis, the symptoms will be on the back of neck).
An ultrasound neck is required to make a diagnosis. A thyroid function test(TFT) is required to assess the hormonal status of your thyroid and if you are hypothyroid, thyroxine supplementation is required.
Smoking does not aggravate the symptoms, but smoking can adversely affect your general health in many ways.
Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
