My Quarry To Be Answered By Dr XXXXXXX D. Dear

Dear doctor,
as pe our discussion regarding second opinion about my husband's hand surgery,
we revisited the new doctor .He wanted to check the brace and wanted to teach us how to fix it
He saw the enlarged x ray and said he is hopeful of healing and we will wait for 15/20 days and check whether any improvement is there. He asked to keep the hand always in brace along with the sling and should never remain hanging,
He also asked to do few exercises without disturbing the angle between sling and arm.
He suggested protein powder ,some biscuits to enhance calcium in body.
2.He also described the surgery procedure as he as to hive a cut on previos incision and check the plate and screw condition.he will fix a new screw of higher length. If he does not get space sufficient to do this from that side then he will have to do it from opposite sight followed by grafting.
3.I want to ask u now is this the right procedure??
4.is it life threatening??
5.Will my husbsnd regain same energy to that hand say after 3/4 months to carry out normal activities?
Regards,
Alpan Abhyankar
This new doctor is correct in his approach, it is not life threatening, don't worry
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back to me with the updates.
The steps or process that is being followed by your new doctor is perfect. Do not worry, this is the right approach.
No, this is not life threatening, please stop worrying. This surgery will help the fracture heal faster, they will not do anything more than that, so it will not harm or put your husband in danger.
After any injury, complete recovery of 100% energey / strength is impossible, but in 6 months, the bone will be almost like new and not broken, and your husband will recover almost 80% of the strength.
For daily activities, you do not need all the 100% of strength, even 20% will be enough.
But rest assured that your husband will be able to do everything just like before within 6 months.
Please don't be so scared, your new doctor is on the right path and I think he will do his best.
Hope that answers your concerns.
I will be happy to help you if you have any more queries.
Take care XXXXXXX
