Question: My querry to be answered by dr XXXXXXX D.
Dear Doctor,
about one and half month ago my husband faced an accident. He slipped on thr right hand. Right arm(humerous) bone was broken. He underwent surgery.
I am attaching all the necessary documents along with x ray films
pl go through and revert asap.
My measure quarry is after one and half month also the latest xray report shows the gap between 2 bones and thus
doctor suggested humerus brace and injection Bonista s.c. daily for next 3 months.
Is this diagnosis appropriate and will the gap heal automativcally over the period or do we require to reoperate?
Pl also suggest do we require tio take second opinion of orthopedic surgeon?

Brief Answer:
Seecond opinion is better, changing orthpedic surgeon is preferable.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

I am sorry for the delay in responding to your query. My cousin's son expired day before yesterday and I could not pay attention to your query.

I have seen all the attached X-Ray images and discharge summary.

The surgery that was done has been of absolutely no help, the bone has not at all healed and is not showing any signs of healing, that is why the gap is still persisting.

In my honest opinion, a revision surgery is better and you need a better orthopedic surgeon.

Please go ahead and take a second opinion from a orthopedic surgoen from hospitals like XXXXXXX G S or other teaching hospitals, they see many such cases.

Injection Bonista will help but that may not be enough.

This gap healing automatically in is unlikely as I don't see any signs of healing.

I hope that answers your query dear XXXXXXX I am extremly sorry again for the long delay in answering your question.

I wish your husband a speedy recovery and you take care of your health.

Best wishes.

Dear doctor,
as per your suggestion, we availed the second opinion about my husband's hand injury.
According to this doctor reoperating using grafting will heal the bones.
He gave almost the same opinion as you.
Only he said that there are 10% chances of healing by bonista and using the brace (which we already ordered as per old doctor's advice. ) Use the brace for next 15 days and then repeat the X ray. He suggested some exercises to be carried out using brace.
Only my worry now is related to grafting. I think 2 operative procedures will be needed this case.
Will that revision of surgery will weaken the muscles near that broken bones;which have already weakened?
How long it takes to heal the bone once this procedure is done?

Brief Answer:
Mostly what I said, second surgery is safe, don't worry.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for updating me with the details of your second opinion.

As I mentioned to you over the phone, it is unlikely to heal on it's own even with Bonista, 10% chance means the same.

And I told you that a revision surgery is required and bone graft is required.

It is a good thing that the other surgeon thinks the same.

I am quite hopeful that surgery will go smooth and everything works out well.

This revision surgery will be quite safe and will not harm muscle or any other important structures.

Do not worry.

It will be alright, please proceed with the surgery.

I wish you good health and speedy recovery to your husband.

Best wishes.

Dear doctor,
1.How urgent the surgery revision is??can we wait for atleast 15 days?? Because the new doctor asked for waiting for 15 days using brace.
2.Will the joints be stiff since there is no movement of the hand now due to brace??
3.Can he do the finger movements right now?

Brief Answer:
Can wait for 15 days, there is no hurry for revision surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for the follow-up.

As I mentioned over the phone to you, there is no immediate neccesity for surgery.

You can wait for 15 days.

Joints will be slightly stiff, but it can be easily restored to normal by mild physiotherapy which is anyway required in your husnand's case.

Yes, he can do finger movements and I would endourage him to go ahead with finger movements, that is quite essential.

Hope that clarifies your doubts. Again, aplogies for the delay in answering your query.

Best wishes
