Question: My record shows the following anomalies:
Mild left ventricle septal hypertrophy
Impaired LV diastolic function E=64cm/2, A=85cm/E E/A=0.7
Mildly thickened mitral valve, mild mitral incompetence, mild tricuspid incompetence
I had an angioplasty (LAD) 18 years ago and at least one TIA in the last few years. I am generally healthy and strong, but my heart flutters a lot and makes its presence felt.
Both my parents had heart disease.
I have been taking Plavix and Baby Aspirin since my TIA.
Is it safe to stop taking Baby Aspirin?

My blood pressure is not elevated, cholesterol levels within acceptable range, ECG normal.
But recently I experienced pressure in the chest that lasted ca. 30 minutes, but resolved itself after I had taken 3-4 full strength Aspirin.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma’am

After carefully passing through the medical details provided by you and can understand your concern for your health and my response to your query is

1. After angioplasty dual antiplatelet therapy is generally advised for a maximum duration of one year (by dual I mean aspirin and plavix together). I don’t know why it has not been discontinued in your case.

2. However taking your recent event into consideration I would highly recommend you to personally consult your cardiologist once and get an Angiography done to review the status of your coronaries. As 18 yrs has passed so it’s important to evaluate things taking into consideration the chest discomfort which you had recently.

For now stopping baby aspirin is not advisable without getting yourself evaluated.

I hope this information will guide you properly. And again it’s important to get an angiogram done.

Kind Regards

Thank you, Dr. Partap.

Are an echocardiogram or CT as helpful as an angiogram for my case, and how are they an improvement over an ecg?

Brief Answer:
Hello again

Detailed Answer:
In your case there is already a stent in place and you had some symptoms recently, now all these things makes the evaluation of previous stent and Coronary arteries important.

For this Angiography is the gold standard investigation and will give us a definitive idea that whether or not anything important is going on.

I hope this information will answer your query.

Kind Regards
