Question: My severe ocd is preventing me to even live with my mom. I m scared to death about my OCD triggering when she comes and stays with me. What to do? Help. Emergency.
Brief Answer:
Are you being treated for OCD?
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I'm sorry to hear that you are so worried about your OCD being triggered by your mom. The first thing I would want to know is, are you currently being treated with OCD, either with psychotherapy or medications? Has you OCD been triggered by your mother before? Is your OCD currently being well controlled? Please let me know if you can provide more information about your situation and I would be glad to discuss your situation further.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
There are many options for managing OCD
Detailed Answer:
Besides medications like the Luvox that you take, there are other ways to manage the stress that comes with OCD. One thing that you can try is mindfulness, which is just being aware of your thoughts and feelings of OCD, realize that those thoughts are not you, that you don't have to accept them or allow them to control you. This can take time and practice, and it may help to use a practice such as prayer or meditation along with it. Other than this, it is important to get exercise, plenty of sleep, avoid nicotine and alcohol, and to reach out to friends and family that it may help to talk about what you are going through.
For long-term control, besides medications and psychotherapy, deep brain stimulation is sometimes used, in which they implant electrodes in the brain to help with the OCD impulses, and this has been shown to help some with patients who have severe OCD despite other treatments.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
