Question: My sister is 34, has had gastric bypass surgery, appendix and gall bladder removed, partuial hysterectomy, and many sinus surgeries. She is having severe gas pressure that is like stabbing pains under her ribs, causes nausea and vomiting and diarrhea. Also having random bruising, she just had her iron checked at 13.4. No other medical issues I can think of and she is getting the run around.

Brief Answer:
Whats the duration of her symptoms?

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There are two possibilities-
1)If duration is short term then it can be gastroenteritis which means there is inflammation of intestines as a result of viral or bacterial infection.
2)However if the symptoms are persistent post surgery then it could be related to the resection surgery. As gut is resected digestion and absorption process is hampered causing loose stools pain etc.A sort of irritable bowel like symptoms.

Kindly mention the duration of symtoms?
When did they started(Post surgery)?
Waiting for reply.
Thank you!

She had it prior to surgery but seems to be worse post.

Brief Answer:
Give her antispasmodic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
I would suggest her to try antispasmodic like Dicyclomine 10 mg thrice daily for few days and to see if she is relieved or not.
Thanks!
