My Six Year Old Has Red Swollen Cheeks That Just

possibly erythema infectiosum (fifths disease)- benign condition
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
It is possible that the symptoms are due to erythema infectiosum. This is a benign (not dangerous) condition that occurs in childhood. Also known as fifths disease
In many children, approximately 1 week before the redness and swelling of the cheeks, the child may have headache, fever, cough/cold symptoms, abdominal pain, joint pain, sore throat- these symptoms can last 2 to 3 days then disappear. These symptoms only occur in 10 to 20% of children.
One week to 10 days later, the changes in the cheeks occurs. This lasts 2 to 4 days.
Erythema infectiosum is a due to a viral infection.
After the changes to the face/cheeks resolve, children may then get a rash over the limbs.
You can consider taking him to his doctor to determine if this is the reason for his symptoms.
If confirmed, treatment is mainly symptomatic- if there is any pain- meds for pain are given, if there is any itching then an anti histamine is prescribed
Fluids and rest are also important as well
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
