Question: My son XXXXXXX XXXXXXX ( Age – 8 years, Weight – 46 kgs) had the below mentioned problems on dt. 23/10/18 morning:
1.     Fever ( 101 – 102 deg C )
2.     Diarrhea ( semi liquid stool )
3.     Stomach pain
Consulted with child specialist and given ZIFI 200 ( 2 tabs per day ), ENTEROGERMINA ( PROBIOTIC ), ZINCONIA, CALPOL 500, PENTOCID 40MG, MEFTAL SPAS for 5 days
Next day there was no fever after taking medicine. But stomach pain was there for nearly 3 days. The stool condition also was improved but was not normal.
On 4th day evening, we observed minor blood in the stool. So, we did not give Zifi 200 tablets in the 5th day. I thought it is due to side effect of Zifi 200. So, I had given Zifi 200 for 4 days only.
Yesterday evening, my son again had pain in stomach. Today he has gone to latrine for 2 times ( NO blood in stool) and the stool is not so good ( semi liquid). He is feeling minor pain in stomach also. Please suggest the medicine. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
This could be typhoid

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Most diarheas are caused in virus in children but the symptoms also corelate with typhoid. He has already taken zifi for 4 days. I will suggest the following:

- Take a Widal test for typhoid today and repeat it in 5 days and corelate both findings to see if titer is rising or falling. Also do a complete blood count, stool complete analysis.
- Since there is blood in stool, I will suggest to withdraw Pantocid and meftal spas. Continue enterogemina and calpol (As needed) for next few days
- If pain in stomach worsens, then please see a surgeon urgently. In fact you can followup with a surgeon for bleeding if any.
- Give him cleaner water to drink and soft foods only. Avoid raw foods.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
