My Son Has A Doctors Appointment For A Neurologist In
Question: My son has a doctors appointment for a neurologist in April. I was wondering if based off when I tell you could you give some type of indication of what he might have. He is 18 months old. He has low muscle tone he still eating stage two baby food. He does not speak any words only babbles. He doesn’t show any interest in table food. He also doesn’t walk run or stand unassisted. I know when he was born he had a knot in his umbilical cord. Could you give me a possible indication on what’s probably going on?
Also as well prior to his birth I had two miscarriages back to back and they did genetic testing and tested me for everything under the sun so I don’t believe that there’s a genetic component.
Brief Answer:
Some advices to help him be stronger in reaching millstones
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for using "Ask a doctor" service.
It is difficult to tell for sure what your son has without a physical exam, other possible tests or even the full picture of his health.
Anyway what you are describing can be an enzyme deficiency of some sort. I have had patients with these symptoms before.
You can also check his eyes- if that wasn't done before.
I would say that you can help him a lot especially with the physical development. Encourage him to walk, help him and spend time with him in the things that he is behind like walking, grabbing things, putting food in front of his nose so he can smell and offer it to him. Maybe is everything ok with him, he just needs more attention then other babies to reach all the milestones.
Hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Dr. Klarida Papaqako, General and Family physician.
