My Son Is 1 Year Old, We Are Just Back

Question: My son is 1 year old, we are just back from trip and he is getting fever back to back since 2 to 3 days. He has chest congestion minor and his dr said his right ear is blocked. His appetite is reduced, not really eating a lot
Giving him every 6 hour 3.5ml ibrufen and twice a day antibiotic 5ml. Is there anything else I can do ?

Hi...Thank you for consulting on Ask A Doctor..
Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
You can alternate Tylenol and Ibuprofen please.
