Question: My son is 17 years. He has severe constipation. All his reports are fine. He was taking cremaffin for 1 year. He was doing fine the he switched to ayurvedic med. He was doing OK with that but he skipped his dosage in between . Now he is in discomfort. Not getting relieved properly. Doc has asked him to switch to duffalac. I m worried that it might now help him. As he was on cremaffin 30ml dosage. And duffalac is mild as compared to it. Also doc has advised him to take movilac powder 6 sachets in one go to clear system for once.
Shall I switch to duffalac or continue with cremaffin or can I give him crameffin plus for few days till he gets better.please advice

Answer given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Since he is having chronic constipation, certain tests are to be done ( Colon transit study, defecography and balloon expulsion test). You can consult your gastroenterologist for these tests.

Cremaffin, Cremaffin plus and Duphalac are good laxatives with different mechanisms of action.
For effective bowel movements the following are important -
1. High fiber diet - Include lot of vegetables, fruits
2. Drink lot of fluids
3. Adequate physical activity. At least 30 minutes of brisk walking/playing everyday
4. Toilet training. Fix a specific time everyday for bowel movements.
Urge to defecate should not be ignored.
Meanwhile he can take Duphalac for relief. If he has fecal impaction or passing very hard stools, he can also follow the other advice of taking Movilac .
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
