My Son Is 22 Years Old And In Good Health

Question: My son is 22 years old and in good health with no health conditions. His stomach was upset Tuesday and he has experienced fever with severe diarrea, which has gotten progressively worse. Thursday, Friday and today. He is experiencing extreme sharp pain and cramps in his abdomen, (not appendix) at random. His fever is gone, (I related the fever to corn dust in a grain bin on Thursday), possibly a coincidence. He is drinking fluids. He still has diarrea but it is not at the same time as the severe sharp pain and cramps that last for approximately 1-3 minutes, about once an hour. I spoke to an RN and she seemed to be leaning toward gall bladder. He does not have insurance and does not want to go to an ER and a Medcheck would not be much help. Is there something I should watch for or be concerned with? He has never had any type of stomach issue to date.

Gastroenteritis.

Hello and thank you for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query,
Have seen your details and i appreciate your concerns,
Very likely it was gastroenteritis which means inflammation of lining of intestine as a result of viral infection.
For cramps give him a lots of Electral or Oral rehydration solution.
Give him over the counter imodium 4 mg twice daily till loose motions stop.
Along with it any over the counter probiotic could be taken for few days.
Give him easy to eat BRAT diet.
Banana,Apple sauce,Toast etc and he would be fine in few days.
Its not gallbladder...Loose motions are not there in gallbladder conditions.
Thanks!
