My Son Is 5 Years Old. He Has One Eye
Question: My son is 5 years old. He has one eye (left eye) that will turn red and become very irritated. He has seen 4 doctors over the past year and each one suggests it is allergies and prescribes him singulair or equivalent which has done nothing. One doctor suggested it was pink eye and we treated it with antibiotic eye drops (that has been a year ago) and the redness still persists. I feel like the doctors he has seen so far have been more interested in making sure that our insurance was going to pay rather than being concerned about why my son keeps having this condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Usually allergies affect both the eyes
Detailed Answer:
hey thanks for the question. I would like to see some pictures of the eye so as to arrive at a conclusion. Usually allergies affect both eyes and pink eye doesnt remain for so long . Secondly it could be a scleral aka the white of the eye involvement or else it could be a uveitis which is inflammation of deeper layers of eye. Does he have any pain in the eye when it is red?? Any other pains like joint pain or fever?? . Any report of slit lamp examination done by a doctor ? I would like to review all that . hope my answer helps you . I would really like to follow up the case. Regards

Sorry it's taken so long to reply. I've attached a photo. Notice how only one eye is red. This happens all the time. Allergy medication does nothing. Eyedrops offer only temporary relief. He rubs it alot when it turns red so I know it irritates him.
Brief Answer:
This could be infectious also
Detailed Answer:
hey thanks for the follow up . The eye is red indeed and it could be infectious also but rubbing indicates a allergic pathology also . Have you ever been prescribed steroids for the same ? have they worked well because this redness needs steroid eye drops for two to three weeks . Hope my answer helps you. Regards
