Brief Answer:
Glucose not recommended only Normal saline for dehydration during ketosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

As you say your son seems to be following high fat low carb keto diet.
There are certain medical emergencies that can come up if such a diet is not taken under the supervision of a medical doctor.
A strict fluid balance is to be maintained by the followers if not dehydration is very common in such kids.
Yes, IV glucose is not recommended in a person who is following keto diet. Only normal saline should be given in such a case if the person is severly dehydrated.

If this was the answer you were looking for, I hope I answered it straight.

Hi Thanks for replying. He is not eating sugar in any form. zero. nothing in starch. only vegetables, avacados omlet, and spinach sort of things. lost 15 kg in 18 months. high euric acid seen in reports. b12 is deficit. eggeterian. in case he meets any accident or emergecy condition (travelling a lot) how the doctors would know he is sugar intolerant? and in case they try to give him IV glucose, will he collapse? what should he do to take care?
Yes I was looking for this kind of reply and if you can please give me detailed tip which I can show him to take his care. doctors says he has become like too skinny and like dry fruit and consuming his reserved energies. thanks for help. if you need any further info please let me know.

Brief Answer:
Tag him at wrist saying keto diet

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Sorry for late reply. I apologise.
It doesn't not mean that he cannot be given sugar at all during emergencies but should give it very very slow.
In such a case where the regular doctor was concerned about his current loss of weight n being skinny you should pursuade him to adopt other healthy diet other than ketodiet. You can do it as a parent.
You should also seek help from counselor who can counsel him to other diets which can keep him better and with low glucose.
Till that time you have to wrap at band around his wrist saying 'On ketones glucose intolerant' which will warn the doctors not to push too much sugar in the body at once.
Hope this answers.
