My Son Was Bitten By A Tick Yesterday While Bailing
Question: My son was bitten by a tick yesterday while bailing hay. It hat been on him maybe 5 or 6 hours. We got it off and wiped the areas down with alcohol. I don’t think our area is very prone to tick disease but wanted to see what we should do if anything at this point
Brief Answer:
Not in risk for Lyme.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
You did the good thing removing the tick as soon as you saw it. Also disinfection is done correctly.
I think your son is not in risk of contracting Lyme disease because tick remained there for only 6 hours and Lyme need 36 hours to be transmitted.
He may keep himself under observations if the bite side is increasing its dimensions, if fever, headache, palpitations, nerve pain or dizziness start you may need to consult a doctor soon.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
