Question: My son was recently diagnosed with Rocky Mountain spotted fever and has taken 21 days of doxycycline. He has also been on Dexalant for 2 months. He does not feel well at all and he constantly is burping and really doesn't eat very much. He also keeps a headache most days. Please let us know how to handle this?

Brief Answer:
Could be gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
It could be due to gastritis from medicines.
I usually suggest proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole once daily before breakfast till the antibiotics course gets over.
Also the headache is well known in his current illness. Give him acetaminophen. Also ensure he is hydrated well.

Dr Arun
