My Symptom(s) Which Have Been Present For Over A Month

Problems with prostate need to be ruled out
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service,
I carefully read your query and understand your concern.
Very likely you are having a problem with your prostate as it may cause frequent urination and difficulty to urinate. Prostate problems may also favor some urinary infection which may cause the burning in urination.
You will need:
- a urinalysis and urine culture to rule out urinary infection and also you will need a check of your prostate.
- PSA (blood test), is a marker for prostate problems
- urodynamic studies may be required (where they check how well you empty your bladder)
- your doctor may order an abdominal or a rectal ultrasound and in rare cases cystoscopy as well (seeing your bladder with a camera) to check for other structural problems of the urinary system.
If benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH) is diagnosed, the doctor will give you medications for this and in case of infection, antibiotics will be prescribed.
Meanwhile, try to drink plenty of fluids to flush your urinary system and help reduce the risk of infection.
I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
General and Family Physician
