My Upper Left Leg {back} Had Been Bothering Me For
Rest, pain medication and heat pads are the best means for now
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
Judging from your description the pain seems to be most likely in the setting of arthritis, joint inflammation, from the location the hip joint and sacroiliac joint are the most likely to be involved.
In terms of management, it seems to me that your doctor is correct in his approach.
Initial management consists of pain medication, rest and cold/warm application (in the first few days ice is more beneficial, afterward heat is better). In most cases, inflammation gradually subsides and there is an improvement, but it is gradual over the course of a few weeks, not immediate. Physical therapy may be considered later on to prevent future episodes.
If symptoms persist over a few weeks, or if they worsen then other measures must be considered like local injections of steroids and anesthetics. Of course, before that imaging tests are necessary to identify properly the responsible joint in order to apply treatment where needed.
I remain at your disposal for other questions.
