My Uterus Is Hugely Sore And Swollen. So I Do Have Bad One Here. Can You Advise Me On This Medicine ?

A week later I started to get sore flank and very bad uterus pain like labour pains. I am not pregnant and my period has started. But 4 days late.
The doctor ran a urine check and I have e- coli.
They have given me Ciproxin Ciprofloxacin.
I have read up on it and I am scared to take as I have fibromyalgia and I read it’s bad for that. But equally I am scared this goes in to my kidneys and causes likes of sepsis.
My uterus is hugely sore and swollen. So I do have bad one here. Can you advise me on this medicine ? Is it safe for me to take with Fibro myalgia ? The doc said it’s a 5 day course so they think ok ?

It is OK for five days, I suggest you get screened for pregnancy
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mnewberry,
It is perfectly safe to take ciprofloxacin for a UTI. The type of antibiotic can/ should be adjusted according to urine culture, once there it has been cultured for a sufficient amount of time. If your flank pain persist or you have a fever, it suggests pyelonephritis, which usually requires hospitalization for a short time. An ultrasound of your abdomen would also be performed to assess your upper urinary tract.
The soreness of your uterus could be many things, but I suggest a pelvic exam to rule out pelvic inflammatory disease and should also get a pregnancy test.
Hope this helps, feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

As far as pregnancy goes, I have used condoms and I’m now experiencing my period which is heavy but it’s happening at the moment My doc did a pregnancy test and it came back negative. This was before my period started.
What do you think now of pregnancy ?
As far as uterus is concerned it’s just sore. It’s like lower flank / pelvic pain basically.
I am really scared of the reviews of ciproflaxin as people say that one drug has ruined them terribly and to only take of had anthrax poisoning etc. Really worries me
You are not pregnant, ciprofloxacin is safe
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
A negative pregnancy test (which measures HCG in urine or blood) rules out pregnancy.
At my department, we use ciprofloxacin on a daily basis - and have done so for years - with no reports of serious adverse reactions that I know of. Naturally, if you are allergic to fluroquinolones, you should not take it but that is not the case for you.
Hope this helps.

Difficult to say
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
It is difficult to say. The uterus is placed immediately behind the bladder, so an urinary tract infection may give pain that seems to come from the uterus. I suggest you see a gynecologist for a pelvic examination.
P.S. Ciproxin and ciprofloxacin are the same, as you point out.
