My Wife, 72 Years Of Age Is Having Pain In

Question: My wife, 72 years of age is having pain in the middle of her stomach. Her blood pressure is normal for her age and weight, but she feels dizzy. She has been outside in very hot weather, though not very long. She said that she was "dripping wet" when she came into the house. I have given her an aspirin and she says she is feeling better. She has no pain in her arms or other extremities. I am concerned that this pain may be masking a heart issue, though she has not had any heart issues and takes no medications. Do you think that we should go to the emergency room?
Brief Answer:
I would recommend going to the ER.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!
I understand your concern and would explain that her symptoms could be related to the heart.
We can not exclude dehydration or gastritis.
But, considering her age, I would recommend bringing her to the ER for a physical exam s resting ECG and cardiac enzymes.
Further tests may be needed ( a chest X ray study, complete blood count, blood electrolytes, fasting glucose, etc.).
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need!
