My Wife Had Mri On Liver Based On 7.3 Tumor
Question: My wife had Mri on liver based on 7.3 tumor marker and 131 Alkaline Phosphatase blood test. Tested negative for hepatitis and cirrhosis. MRi revealed lesion on liver. Dr has asked for another blood test because levels went up from 6.3 to 7.3 on last check. She has no other symptoms but Dr wants to see if level will go down or will order a pet scan. Her only issue is she is heavy for her size. In addition, she has been diagnosed with gall stone. Is it still likely the lesion is benign and Dr is being cautious trying to figure out why level increased before releasing her or is there still concern it could be cancerous. Thanks
Brief Answer:
Liver biopsy
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking
Usually the high level of AFP may indicate cancerous conditions.Due to the fact that AFP its rising and the existing MRI lesions in the liver,if the level of AFP its higher this time ,I will suggest the biopsy of the liver ,to have the right diagnosis and further treatment if is needed
Regards

Could the Gall Stone be reason for the increase in blood level? I was surprised the radiologist stated in report, see me in a year. Sounds like, it is simply if the blood level rises again, have to have the biopsy and or pet scan to determine what is happening. If the blood level rises, does that usually indicate cancer is present or could it still be benign? Thank you.
Will try to send tomorrow.

I have downloaded and sent copy of MRI and blood test. Couple notes, the blood level XXXXXXX from 6.3 to 7.3 and either the ultrasound or MRI identified the presence of Gall Stone. Please let me know if you have received the downloads of test results.
Brief Answer:
Exams
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
I have been carefully through the reports.I don’t think that the raising AFP its related to the malignancy due to the fact that MRI has excluded this pathology
AFP is measured in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL). An AFP level of less than 10 ng/mL is normal for adults. An extremely high level of AFP in your blood—greater than 500 ng/mL—could be a sign of liver tumors.
In my opinion you should not worry.Just repeat the exams 1 month later
