My Wife Has Not Had A Solid Bowel Movement In

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2020
Question: My wife has not had a solid bowel movement in two weeks. Her current symptoms include: significant abdominal pain in the front and back that comes and goes in waves and is sometimes sharper than others; nausea; bloating and occasional gas; and a heaviness in her left side.

in the past six days, she has had two enemas, two rounds of XXXXXXX laxative %E2%80%93 magnesium citrate, mineral oil, MiraLAX, and every digestive food we can think of.

She has been able to eat a little every day. She has been passing liquid stool, but only with laxative.

she is able to be active and take a short walk or work around the house, although with very significant discomfort.

and we have been hesitant to go to our primary care physician because we are currently in between insurances. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Please get stool test, Ultrasound and upper GI Endo as needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your wife and understood the concerns.

My thoughts:
An excessive stool softener or laxatives care to cause loose stools and also can cause spasmodic pain in abdomen. Hence reduce the doses to a level wherein the stools should be soft and not loose.

I am worried about the pain in the back if it is associated with pain in the abdomen in front. The probable causes that need to be ruled out are:

Stomach ulcer on the posterior wall.
Pancreatitis.
This is possible by getting at least an Ultrasound and Upper GI Endoscopy if required.
Also, get her stool done if possible. It may give a clue.
You may please add OTC antispasmodic, PPI like Omeprazole and probiotic.

Please give feedback.
