Her diabetes in last few days is around 80 - 90 for fasting & 100 - 120 PP.
Moreover due to high BP which she had previously my gynaec is planning for Cesearan as soon as she completes 37 weeks. Last Sonography was done on 23.08.2018. Gestational age of baby was 36 weeks 6 days & fetal weight was 2970 grams. All other things were normal.
My query is as my wife is having Gestational Diabetes so there are chances that my baby may have low blood sugar. Or are there any other complications to baby due to diabetes or High BP?
What are treatment options for that. Do we need to admit our baby to NICU? If so than generally for how much time?
NICU facilities are essential at the place you choose for delivery.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone carefully through your query. Let me assure you that the decision of your doctor seems to be on the right lines. You need not be bothered about the possibility of low blood sugar in the newborn. Standard hospitals with neonatal care facilities would know how to monitor the blood sugar and to manage it effectively. Such a condition can easily be dealt with.
There are other possibilities like heart disease, high birth weight or growth restriction that are possible consequences of gestational diabetes. Your pediatrician will be able to evaluate the conditions. The risks of high blood pressure are more concerning on the mother's part.
Whether the child would need NICU care is something that can be commented upon only after the birth of the newborn. Nevertheless, it is highly essential that NICU facilities are available at the hospital where the delivery would be planned.
