Brief Answer:
Dengue and Lyme possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

There are several other diseases that can cause the same symptoms that resemble malaria
Fever
Chills
Headache
Mussels pain, fatigue
Nausea vomiting
Rash etc.

It can be dengue fever if she has been travelling to tropical areas. Another possibility is Lyme disease and she possibility may have a tick bite.
Your doctor should test you for dengue and Lyme.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Do not believe it is Lyme, fairly familiar with this. I guess could be dengue. My wife was given Mefloquine HCL 250 MG tablets before her trip as preventative but only took one for whatever reason. Blood tests are still inconclusive. Would it hurt or help if she started taking Mefloquine now? Blood work shows some liver tests elevated. She took the Mef. tablets on prior trips with no issue.

Do dengue and malaria tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

If it is confirmed that the infection is malaria with finding the parasites in blood then taking mefloquine is necessary.
Also dengue may be possible. Consult a doctor for tests to get diagnosed.
