medication started on 23 rd night
Brief Answer:
Continue antibiotics
Detailed Answer:
Hi Amanadeep
Thank you for the details given
For a 12kg child, I would give 3.5ml of Calpol 250 suspension instead of 2.5ml.
To comment on the dose of cefixime, kindly let me know the concentration of Cefixime syrup you have- two concentrations available- 50 & 100mg per 5ml
A sudden onset fever with plenty of pus cells in urine probably suggests a urine infection as you rightly mentioned. As your doctor has already given empirical antibiotic and the fever is coming down, we need not worry much. Fever may come and go for initial 72 hours.
Just continue the antibiotic - this might need modification once the culture report is available. Usually we give the sensitive antibiotic for 7-10 days.
Also, if the culture turns out to be positive, we will need an ultrasound abdomen also to assess kidneys and urinary tract. Your doctor will discuss this.
I hope this answer will help
Let me know if I can assist you further

it's omnix 100 cefixime syrup sir and we r giving 3 ml. twice a day..also waiting for urine culture...still sir any thing to add or any diet modification...we r adding more fluids too... doctor here also advised to stop bottle feed immediately but it's not possible instantly but we are trying for it...
Brief Answer:
Dosage is correct
Detailed Answer:
Hi Amandeep,
You are giving the correct dose of cefixime
No diet modification is needed, but child will be having poor appetite for few days- so just increase the frequency of feeds. It is always better to feed using steel cup/spoon rather than bottles due to hygienic reasons. Although bottles feeds are not related to urine infection, it can cause bowel infection/gastro-enteritis. No need to stop all of a sudden, but try gradually. Until then, ensure that the bottle is washed well in hot water daily before using
I hope this answer will help
