Nodes Developed In The Neck. Tested Positive For Monto Test. How Long Medicine Should Be Taken?
Thanks for writing to us.
There is a high chance that your sister is suffering from tubercular lymphadenitis with Montoux test reading of 80. But do get X XXXXXXX chest, ESR, sputum microscopy culture along with FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) from lymph nodes before starting the therapy. Therapy lasts for about 6 to 9 months depending on category of the disease.
No major precaution except taking drug in full doses. A single drug should not be taken because there i a high chance of developing resistance. Also, we would need to monitor her liver function once in 2-3 months since sometimes these drugs can harm the liver. She should also watch out for tingling, numbness which may be a problem sometimes with isoniazid. Avoiding cheese, wine etc would also be required.
Also, she should not use any other medications without consulting the physician since some of these drugs can interact and cause problems
