Noticed Swelling In Neck And Tender To Touch. What Could This Be?

Question: Last month my left side of my neck swelled up, no pain just tense and a little tender i don't feel any lumps or bumps, this went away after about a week, gone for a few weeks and is now back.. what could this be?
Hi,
Thank you for contacting Healthcare magic.
Based on your symptoms, there are three possibilities:
1. Infection- in this condition, there would be warmth over the swelling and it would be tender(painful) to touch.
2. Insect bite- some itching may be present over the affected area.
3. Allergic reaction - again itching may be present.
As of now there is no need to worry. It may resolve on its own (as happened earlier). If it does not resolve, you may consult a doctor.
I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any more queries.
Best wishes,

there is no warmth or pain to the touch also not a bite and no itching present, any other thoughts?
Other rare and less common possibilities could be:
1. Cystic hygroma- collection of water in the neck, although more common in children.
2. Fat collection in the neck
For further evaluation, ultrasound examination of the neck would be useful.
