Brief Answer:
MRI scan will help in diagnosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If there is pain and swelling in the knee for last one week, a soft tissue injury in the knee is likely. This can be diagnosed on an MRI scan. Till then keep the knee immobilized, avoid weight bearing on the knee and avoid all the painful activities. Keeping the leg elevated will help in reducing the pain and swelling.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
