Question: OK, six weeks ago, precisely 9/5/2018, I started having round red splotches, about the size of a quarter, appear every morning when I get up. I believe it started with 9 bites, possibly spider, on one leg and three on my hip. Since that time I get these almost daily, some itch and some don't. I stopped counting at 35 spots. My doctor had to take Zyrtec and use a steroid cream. That helped but I continue getting the spots on a daily basis. They appear on legs and arms, and recently had two on my face. I am seeing a dermatologist in the near future. Any thoughts on this condition? My primary did blood work for allergy testing for food. No negative results. Update: Saw a Dermatologist and she prescribed Cimetidine and Zyrtec. I took the Cimetidine for 17 days. It helped my stomach issues immensely but after about 10 days I started having a headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, almost no energy to walk and diarrhea. The hives, which is what they diagnosed, are still appearing. Why would the Cimetidine help my digestive issues so much and now cause the bad side effects. The Zyrtec makes me feel like a zombie.

change them with Omeprazole and Telfast

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.

I can understand your concern...

According to the history you provide you are taking medications for an allergic reaction and stomach also.

Cimetidine is the first choice of treatment of stomach problems and usually, it does not have side effects. However, it might happen. In such cases we change them with another class of medication called PPI (one of them is Omeprazole).

Regarding Zyrtec, you are feeling like this becomes it causes somnolence. To avoid this we can substitute it with another medication called Telfast tablet which has the same effect but with no effect on sleep.

However, firstly, please discuss with your doctor for the above.
