Okay So My Anxiety Is Out Of Control. Just Hyperfocusing
Question: Okay so my anxiety is out of control. Just hyperfocusing on one thing to the next. It started when I did cocaine, like 5 lines in a night. I know, I'm an idiot. I don't do this by the way normally. The next day at first I was just having anxiety about doing it, then I felt like my throat was tight and had difficulty swallowing all day, I thought it was acid reflux so I take a nexium and feel like it's stuck in my chest, then I start panicking, but it eventually goes down. The next day after no sleep, I'm freaked out about taking pills. So I take a pill and it happens again. Like all day. Totally panicking all day. Finally it goes down that night. But I'm freaked out and don't even want to eat. I go a couple of days barely eating and panicky. Then I'm with a buddy who says something to me about work making me come back, I'm on workmans comp and nowhere near ready to come back. I hear this and go into full panic mode. Every time he brings it up I panic and I can't calm down, blood pressure is through the roof. Now it's like if I have the littlest thought that might be upsetting, something I did or said or something immoral I may have done, o start freaking out and panicking. Blood rushes to the head, nervous as all hell going out of my mind. I've been battling anxiety off and on since March. Divorce, bankruptcy, workmans comp, I have stress. But not like this, this is crazy. Did the coke screw me up? Is this drug induced anxiety or psychosis? It wasn't that much. Why am I so crazy right now? Or did the coke elevate something that was already there and now I'm just spinning and can't stop? Help me Doc please.
This has been going on for 2 weeks by the way.

Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
I read your query and understand your concerns about the ongoing anxiety.
Although it is never possible to delineate the exact cause for increased anxiety over a period of time but the temporal connection between use of cocaine and freaking out next day clearly indicates that there is connection between two things. I must acknowledge that personality factors should have played a role in onset and maintenance of problem.
In other words there is good possibility that Cocaine acted as a trigger to cause onset of anxiety with already borderline status (personality traits).
Having said this it is important to state that whatever the cause the treatment course remains same. It is also important to know that anxiety is treatable although the course of treatment last for months if not years.
In my opinion it will be appropriate to visit a anxiety doctor (psychiatrist) as soon as possible to discuss the next course of treatment without delay. I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
